JSC “State Technical Service” summed up the results of its activities for 2024
JSC “State Technical Service” held an All-Hands Meeting, at which the results of the work for 2024 were summed up. Representatives of all departments presented key achievements, discussed problems and ways to solve them.
Chairman of the Management Board of JSC “State Technical Service” Askar Zhunisbek noted:
“2024 was a transformational and breakthrough year for us. We have fulfilled all planned financial and strategic targets, ensuring the security of Kazakhstan’s information space.”
According to the new development concept for 2025-2027, GTS JSC plans to focus on strengthening the security of logistics, as well as on improving the quality of services provided by digital services throughout the country. As part of these efforts, it is also planned to actively integrate AI to effectively respond to incidents and protect the information space. Attention will also be paid to the training of specialists in the protection of automated control systems and cyber expertise.
“To ensure a rapid response to cyber threats, we will create a standard action plan for cyber incidents. We are also planning to participate in an Anti-fraud center to combat fraud. The right to provide non-monopoly services opens the way to foreign markets. The transition to market conditions will require a new business model, AI integration and process optimization,” the Chairman of the Management Board emphasized.
At the end of the meeting, representatives of all departments of the company made presentations, describing in detail the successes achieved, identifying current challenges and suggesting specific solutions for further development.
For example, representatives of the Malware Research Center (CIVC) carried out extensive work in 2024 to protect against targeted attacks. As part of this, 22 central government agencies were investigated, as well as 50 complex cases related to cyber espionage and 123 suspicious files were analyzed. The center’s specialists also released two threat reports and identified two dangerous hacker groups. One of the significant achievements was the participation of employees in international cybersecurity competitions (CTF), as well as the receipt of prestigious certificates confirming their high level of expertise in threat analysis.
In turn, representatives of the Department of Inspection and Technical Support (DOS), which includes three divisions, noted the merits of each of them. Each team has demonstrated high professionalism and achieved significant success in their work.
For example, employees of the 1st line of the test analysis and coordination service, which is part of this department, accepted 76 test applications last year and processed them. It is important to note that on a daily basis, incoming calls are consulted on the 1400 Call Center regarding testing issues.
Also, as part of the examination of the investment proposal, financial and economic justification and technical specifications, a total of 209 projects were examined in the reporting year 2024, taking into account the main and repeated examinations, with 149 examinations planned.
Meanwhile, the DOS technical support service was constantly working on setting up and maintaining information security tools in the information and communication infrastructure of government agencies of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In addition, during the monitoring and response to information security incidents, which is part of the work of the Information Security Monitoring Center for informatization facilities, the service staff carried out technical work on organizing the centralized collection of event logs, installing agents and configuring the information security management system and GTS security events for its technical support.
In 2024, specialists from the DOS Infocommunication Technology Security Laboratory, as part of the implementation of the Unified Electronic Government Repository project, carried out work to create a regulatory framework (ERP), approve operating rules and conduct a pilot project as part of testing ERP technical solutions. The staff of the DOS laboratory also noted the positive dynamics in terms of the readiness of government agencies to put information technology facilities into commercial operation. In 2024, 80 e-government informatization facilities were tested for compliance with information security requirements. Among them, 59 negative and 21 positive test results. The laboratory continues to work on informing civil engineering workers about the preparation for the tests, in particular, it plans to hold seminars and consultations.
During their speech at the All-Hands Meeting, the Information Security Service (SIB) specialists noted that one of the labor-intensive and voluminous tasks is an information security audit, which is conducted annually for the entire infrastructure and necessarily for each new resource, before commissioning. In 2024, 231 servers and 31 resources were checked, more than 50 inconsistencies and more than 150 vulnerabilities were identified. During the presentation, the service’s specialists paid special attention to cyber hygiene. According to the speakers, the lack of awareness of cyber hygiene among employees is always a big risk for ensuring information security, and therefore the Security Council also pays special attention to this area. In 2024, newly hired employees were instructed, exercises were conducted and the use of software on work computers was monitored.
Thus, GTS employees have made a significant contribution to ensuring information security and continuing the country’s most important infrastructure projects. It should be noted that within the framework of this event, 11 departments shared the results of their activities for the year. An important part of the All-Hands Meeting was the mutual gratitude of the Company’s employees to colleagues from other departments, who at the end of their speeches thanked each other for their support and teamwork, emphasizing the importance of collective contribution to achieving the company’s common goals.
“Our main value is you. I thank everyone for their contribution to ensuring the country’s cybersecurity. GTS will always be a reliable partner in matters of information security,” the Chairman of the Management Board summed up.
